ADAM ANDREWS JOHNSON (he/him)
Adam’s journey with yoga began after years of playing and coaching soccer. Adam likes to admit that he did not enjoy his initial yoga class, but later on that first evening back in 2006, Adam felt more alive and vibrant then he’d ever felt before. He immediately started taking daily classes. He was very inflexible at the time but quickly recognized the benefits that yoga was having on his body.
Six months after his first class, Adam went through an advanced teacher training in both Vinyasa and Yin styles of yoga. Before he had even graduated from the program, the head instructor at the school had him teach several of her studio classes as a sub.
Soon after his training, Adam moved to Phoenix where he went on to teach over 5000 classes. At his busiest, he was teaching 22 classes a week. However, Adam’s health took a sharp decline in 2012 when he was diagnosed with several autoimmune conditions. These issues eventually forced him to give up all of his classes in order to focus on his health. Two years later he moved to Portland where he continued to recover for a further few years.
Once life eventually began to feel a little more normal again, Stoned Yoga returned and several of Adam’s students began to help it grow in new and exciting directions. The classes are going strong and Adam is thrilled to be back, but he’s also branching out to share his practice of yoga with others in the Portland community, and he’s excited to be part of the Elk Rock team.
